Post game thoughts....

New Dex thoughts:

On paper and as previous postly posted looks great, but games have been played and the models are tending to thier bruises, wounds, and armour to that is in need of repair.

after 2 games, I went 1-0-1...not bad not the greatest

Important points.

St. Celeste (or as entropmancer refers to her as Whack-a-mole) is an aboslute monster (compared to the rest of the army) in melee...worth it.

Shield of Faith is a nice...granted it is not the 3+ invul save that cost an Act of Faith but it standard 6+ invul save through out the army....And yes I made some and failed some....good

AoF system- I rolled 1's and I rolled 6's, but as a whole the limited acts of faith are helpful but not overpowering....good

Immolator......umm yah....crippled and uneffective in one game....and crippled and uneffective the next game....I miss it not being fast already but I can live

Exorcist.....no change which is ok by me

Seraphim...the good- 2 shots with pistols, AOF, Angelic Visage rules.....the Bad-Honestly the I3 I figure would be the biggest thing.....nope did not bug me at all...(due to fighting Dark Eldar and Tau) but the stupid s3 ap 6 hand flamers.....against Nids it will be good against everything else not so much..

I still need to reconfigure the army to my needs and try other units but I like the list and the army so far....

Heretics be Warned Sisters are here!

Sistes of Battle have landed....and my thoughts

WOOOO FREAKING HOOOOOO

bad things: NO- Book of St. Lucuis, Cloak of St. Aspira, Jumpack on the Canoness, 2 wound Sister HQ (ok this one is not that bad), blessed weapons, hand flamer str3 ap6,

Good things-Free Veteran sisters, cheaper units, NO =][= units, Confessors priests are back, awesome well pointed special characters, command squad can have melee weapons :) acts of faith more streamlined and limited, Repentias may be worth it, and so much more

to show the difference:

Previous dex (my perfered SoB squad)

14 models- Heavy flamer, meltagun, frag grenades, Veteran Sister Superior with Book of St. Lucuis and meltabombs = 214pts

Current dex (same squad)

14 models- heavy flamer, melta gun, and meltabomb on the sister superior 208

6pt difference

Seraphim- both 8 models Seraphim (Veteran sister superior) Superoir armed with twin bolt pistols meltabomb, and the squad has 2 twin hand flamers

Previous: 205

Current: 170

Thats a Difference of a RHINO.....

St. Celeste.....(now know as Saint Alana Janelle of the Order of the Bloody Rose for my purposes...see above) has dropped 86 points.....which down right scary cause her rules are far more scarier than they once were, but the down side is unlike the Canoness she does not have her own "Act of Faith" and she does not have the USR Hit and Run like before...

Some stat lines have changed but overall I am very happy with things....but after tonight we will see...But IT IS A NEW DEX so who cares.

Doc butcha, power armor, and other asweomeness

What gets you excited about wargaming?

For me it is all about the hobby. By that I mean that it is more than getting together with someone and fighting out a battle, but the whole shebang, putting together models, painting, making up an army list, and fighting a close fought, brutal battle where the victor has earned their victory.

If I had to pick one thing, however, i would say that it is converting miniatures. I do not have a single army with an "out of the box" model.  In part I enjoy this part because I can do it regardless of whether I have the time to play, or if my friends have the time, i can snap out a few models, and get my fix.

Here are a few of my more recent projects, sorry for blur, I am still figuring out the camera.

"competitive" or just a jerk?

The term "competitive" gets tossed around a lot lately on the various blogs, comments and forums. However, it seems to me that those using it the most often do not understand what it means to be "competitive."

In Part, I address the difference between being the type of person who has the desire to excel at any endeavor, and the type that uses wargaming as a means of "proving" something.
I argue that the former is the type that practices a skill, and is interested in a good game more than beating their opponent in a lopsided match. The latter is the type that enjoys 'clubbing baby seals,' to use the cliche.

Funny thing though, if one player is dominating the game to that degree, can they really say that they have proven their skill, or have they merely proven their opponent's lack of skill?

last week there was an article that stated that it was defending comp score s in tournaments. Overwhelmingly the responses were negative, ranging from the usual chest beating" thog smash weak player" type responses to " why are you trying to destroy my game' type. All of them failed to address that the comp scores were adding competition, not removing competition.

I say adding simply because it adds more things to be the best at. With painting being a scored event, that means that you have to not only be able to win games, but also paint well. With them saying that your list will be penalized if you min-max, or take "power builds" while you will be rewarded for taking "fluffy" lists, that means than you not only have to be able to win, look good while doing so, you also have to win with a list that a general from your faction would be likely to have, as opposed to the one he/she/it would wish they had.

To look at the other side for a moment, there are arguments about "it's my army" Ishould be able to do what I want, or ' why be forced to take a "weak" list, or "some of us don't enjoy painting," or the best one of all "I just want to win."  My problem with all of these arguments is that they are childish in the extreme, and the invalidate the claim that the person making them is "competitive."

These people do not want competition. if they had competition, with rules and measures taken to prevent 'gaming the system," they would not get to beat their opponents in a landslide, but would have to settle for merely taking one more objective, if possible. From the hyper aggressive mentality they display, i think these players have not grown past their high school days, and are looking for a means of continuing to be a bully.

To summarize, For those of us that want to compete, and by compete, I mean pit ourselves against others that participate in our hobby, and see who is the best, we need to see that scoring the attractiveness of an army, how well it conforms to how their codex is structured, and other "soft" scores are legitimate parts of a tournament. they add new dimensions of competition, and make it so that a thog with a netlist cannot possibly win by simply min-maxing a horde of unpainted, half assembled models.
